It was here on the 27th May, 1498 that Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama led a 170 men expedition to South India. He sailed in and set foot on Kozhikoden soil opening a new chapter in history: the story of a long and fierce socio-political relationship between India and Europe. In addition to the pristine beaches, there is also a stone monument that commemorates the historical landing. An ancient temple situated on a hillock towards the deep sea is an added bonus.
